"Leonard Peltiers unjust incarceration remains a festering sore that impedes better race relations in America. Surely the time has come to promote healing and a spirit of trust and genuine goodwill toward the Indian peoples of America with an act that serves both compassion and justice."
~~ the late Coretta Scott King

THURS: 5-1-08 7-8:30PM PST: Phone in guest: Michael Kuzma Esq., Arguing attorney for Leonard Peltier

( From 8-8:30PM we are planning on rebroadcasting excerpts from last Sunday's show & news from the Longest Walkll ! )

Special Guest: Michael Kuzma Esq., Arguing attorney for Leonard Peltier; Sr. Legislative Assistant to City Council President, Buffalo, New York....

Re:The Freedom of Information Act-...
Native American Political Leonard Peltier still waits for his Freedom....

Michael Kuzma, Esq. fresh out of a "FOIA Hearing" on Leonard Peltier's behalf....will be our call in guest on NAMAPAHH First People's Radio THIS Thursday night 5-1-08 from 7-8:00PM.

Mr.Kuzma will introduce those unfamiliar with Native American Political Prisoner Leonard Peltier's case. Back in 1977 Peltier, who was a member of the American Indian Movement at the time, was charged with murder & convicted with the deaths of two FBI special agents, Jack Coler & Ronald Williams who died due to gunshot wounds on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota on June 26, 1975.

Mr. Kuzma will also update those who have long followed Peltier's case, many who even filled the streets with the chant "What do we want... 'Justice'...when do we want it... 'Now'...
'Free Leonard Peltier' ....."

Considering the time period in some people's minds, this could be considered just another Indian War, but modern day...many people died on Pine Ridge back then and sad to say many people are still dying on Pine Ridge. How many Native American people died at the hands and neglect by the US Government, for generations?

Isn't this supposed to be a Democracy that has been mandated by treaties to take care of tribal people? Isn't this the same US Govt. that has sent countless men & women off to the Middle East in the name of Democracy?

What is wrong with this picture? What happened to a fair trial? Why is Leonard still serving two life sentences? Why won't the FBI agency free these crucial records, claiming to withhold it in the name of "National Security" ? What will the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit decide after this hearing that happened last week? If Leonard's constitutional rights can be violated, what about yours/mine/future generations to come?

Michael Kuzma, Esq. has asked me to ask all of you to email question to me before Thursday night's interview. Any ideas & opinions will also be considered for airtime Thursday night.

My email is: robin.carneen@gmail.com

This is an election year, as we are all too well aware of- It's time for Justice, Leonard deserves a fair trail, like every person who lives in America.

Please tune in Thursday night from 7-8:00PM PST & listen for your questions, etc. I also will have time to share announcements, wherever they are and/or birthday greetings, etc. from 8-8:30PM PST on Red Road Community Calendar.Email your shout outs to Leonard & we will read them during the show!

Remember we stream all over the Mother Earth! Tell your friends & family to join us!

FOIA Hearing
March 11, 2008

Up to this very day, the FBI is still withholding thousands of pages from the RESMURS files that have never been made available to Leonard Peltier or his attorneys. Documents are supposed to be automatically declassified after 25 years under Executive Order 12958. The FBI is arguing that this material should not be subject to automatic declassification because it could damage or cause serious damage to national security and the so-called war on transnational terrorism. The FBI also claims that the release of the withheld documents would reveal the identities of confidential sources. Mr. Peltier's lawyers have argued that these are nothing more than pretense to prevent the release of further evidence of the continuing violation of Mr. Peltier's constitutional rights and further drives home the fact that Mr. Peltier never received a fair trial.

A hearing regarding the release of these documents will take place on Tuesday, March 11th, 2008, beginning at 9:00 a.m. before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit. Court will be held at the University of St. Thomas School of Law in the Frey Moot Courtroom at 1000 LaSalle Avenue, Minneapolis, Minnesota.

In two separate decisions rendered this month, United States District Judge Donovan W. Frank and a three judge panel for the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit refused to order the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to release thousands of pages of documents relating to Leonard Peltier.

Both Judge Frank and the Appeals Court upheld claims by the FBI that release of the sought-after information would, among other things, cause serious damage to the national security of the United States and the war on transnational terrorism.

In 2003, the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit declared that, "Much of the government's behavior at the Pine Ridge Reservation and in its prosecution of Mr. Peltier is to be condemned. The government withheld evidence. It intimidated witnesses. These facts are undisputed." Nevertheless, Judge Frank found that any evidence of prior FBI misconduct was "irrelevant."

Michael Kuzma, attorney for Leonard Peltier in both cases brought under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) said that, "The Courts are unwilling to dispense justice when it comes to Leonard Peltier."

Kuzma went on to state, "How can anyone claim that Leonard Peltier received a fair trial in 1977 when the government withheld and continues to withhold thousands and thousands of pages of FBI documents?"

Barry A. Bachrach, who served as co-counsel with Kuzma, indicated that he was, "disappointed, but not surprised that the Courts elected to summarily uphold the decision by the FBI to keep the documents hidden on dubious national security grounds." Bachrach went on to ask, "How can FBI documents generated over three decades ago possibly pose a threat to the national security of the United States?"

Judge Frank's decision will be appealed to the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. Peltier attorneys have 30 days to file a Notice of Appeal.

Leonard Peltier, a member of the American Indian Movement (AIM), was convicted in Fargo, North Dakota, on April 18, 1977 for the shooting deaths of FBI Special Agents Jack Coler and Ronald Williams at the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota on June 26, 1975.

Here is the latest from BlueJay about this issue-(4-20-08)

Hello everyone,

Just got off the phone with my friend there and she said that they had gotten the video, below, up on You Tube. Forward it on PLEASE!

Also, seems there is much more to this issue than just, as the mainstream media is saying, that the "smell" is what is upsetting the locals.

WRONG ANSWER! There is a fresh water stream that feeds directly into a beautiful WETLAND AREA! Yes indeed... great place to put a several thousand population hog farm.

Will keep you posted as to where this is headed. My sister said to tell all of you THANK YOU! They appreciate the prayers and support very much.

Robin Carneen at NAMAPAHH radio and I are trying to get this issue onto the radio tomorrow with a rep. from Yankton, so keep an eye out for that bulletin too.

Thanks everyone, for your prayers and support,
Bluejay

NEWS STORY WITH THE ATTORNEY RESPONSE---

By KSFY News- attorney tells LongView to keep building!

Story Created: Apr 16, 2008 at 4:50 PM CDT

http://www.ksfy.com/news/local/17826439.html

KSFY News has obtained a statement from a lawyer representing the owner of the proposed hog farm that members of the Yankton Sioux Tribe are protesting near Wagner. Dave Nadolski, of Lynn, Jackson, Shultz and Lebrun, P.C., represents Longview Farms. The statement reads:

"Based on current information, we have advised our client, Longview Farms LLP to continue to build their CAFO on their land in Charles Mix County. Until our client is ordered to stop construction by a Court that has jurisdiction over our client, the land they are building on and the road they are traveling, construction of the facility will continue. At this time, we believe that only SD State Court and US Federal Court have that jurisdiction."

Protesters have been at the site since yesterday, and more participants continue to arrive. Tomorrow, a delegation of students from USD plan to protest at the site, and members of the South Dakota Peace and Justice Center are mobilizing as well

All: She:kon: I had to allow a few days to elapse before I was able to gather my thoughts sufficiently to relay what transpired at the historic signing of the Declaration on Sunday, April 20, 2008, on Camotose Hill, in Northern Quebec on the Algonquin traditional territory. I request that you please not read this until you are able to set aside a few minutes to read (and perhaps burn some tobacco first). First, to let everyone know that we received the blessings of many hundreds and thousands of humans across Mother Earth at the time of the signing. Although no human is greater or lesser than another, a few who specifically provided blessings included William Commanda, 92 year old well-respected Algonquin Elder and visionary, someone closely associated with The 13 Grandmothers, whom many of you will recognize, Arvol Lookinghorse, 19th Generation Sacred Pipe Carrier, Lakota, Russell Means, Lakota (of Longest Walk fame), sent an e-mail of blessings and expressing his desire to sign as well, as did someone closely associated with the Dalai Lama (i presume the Dalai Lama was aware also through this person, although I have not confirmed this). Of course, there were many others whom I will have forgotten in the aftermath of the incredible ceremony itself.

As for myself, I traveled 13 hours from New Jersey to get there, picking up a Mohawk Elder, Joe Thomson, along the way (from Akwesasne). I was told that it would be cold (not higher than 50 degrees Fahrenheit) and that it would be raining. Instead, we were met with temperatures in the 70's and beautiful sunny skies. The surrounding lakes were still frozen! The Algonquin worked hard to prepare the site for the ceremony, making a clearing on the top of Camotose Hill, shoveling 2 feet of snow from the clearing and constructing an amazing circular "lean to" configuration, with a sacred fire pit in the center and the perimeter surrounding the fire and extending under the "lean to" covered with soft fir branches, which seemed like a cloud, green, soft and fragrant and warm to the bare foot. The food preparation area was also amazing and the women who prepared the meals must be deeply acknowledged for their ability to feed the approximately 80 people who attended (there were more, but many came in and out as the days progressed), while still forming an integral part of the ceremony itself. There were many children of all ages, including babies, toddlers and older. I highly recommend the moose dishes, although everything was too delicious for words. The half mile walk up the hill was quite muddy given the "melt" from the sudden and inordinate warmth, but rubber boots were provided for those without.

Saturday evening was a happy time of meeting new old friends, watching the children laugh and play, eating around the cooking fire, drinking coffee, and discussing the spiritual traditional ways with and among the Elders there and sharing Knowledge freely with each other and those younger and curious with that young fire. On Sunday morning a sunrise ceremony was held (Jake allowed me to sleep through it because he must have understood how tired I was – although I would gladly have awoken to participate – Thank You Jake!). Then they forced me to eat a delicious breakfast, with more talk all around. A shaman from Mexico came to the ceremony, whose name is Francisco, along with his assistant, a beautiful woman whose name I am ashamed to say I do not remember at this time. They somehow learned of the auspicious occasion and traveled all the way there, which is why they reminded me of the 3 Wise Men who traveled to Bethlehem when they heard the Christ would be born there 2008 years ago. A number of rituals were performed that seemed to fit seamlessly into the ceremony itself.

On Sunday, as noon approached, the approximate time set aside for the signing, the question arose of who was to sign on behalf of the Algonquin. Should it be one Elder to be selected? Jake Wawatie alone? A woman Elder as well? 2 Elders together? 3 Elders? 4 Elders? It was decided that the Algonquin would hold a traditional governing circle to decide. 40 or so Algonquin sat around the sacred fire under the "lean-to" on the soft fir boughs, young and old, to decide in the traditional way. Jake, as ceremonial leader, spoke first, with words that brought tears to his eyes and to the eyes of all present, talking about many things, but mostly about how important the Declaration is to the future of the children and the children's children, how important it is to reconnect with Mother Earth, this being the only way to reconnect with the Creator, with the Great Reality, with The Great Mystery. He told of how all will be lost unless unification is realized now. Of course, this brief description cannot do honor to Jake's words, which will resonate into the distant future for all time to come.

Then Jake asked me to speak. i did not originally expect to speak and certainly did not plan any words. i cannot describe how terrified i felt at that moment when i stood in front of all these courageous people, people with such collective wisdom, with my limited but unshakeable understanding of the role they were playing at this peculiar and truly Prophetic time in human history. i honestly cannot recall all my words, but there was such an energy in that circle at that time that it was impossible to not be overcome by emotion (as Jake had been – because I understood then what he was grappling with) and i recall having to pause several times to continue. The words that I do recall, the words that stand out in my mind, concerned comparing the Declaration to a door that will be opened once the decision is made to sign it as a Nation (and/or as an individual human) and that by signing the Declaration, one walks through that door, that on the other side is the world of spirit that the Prophesies foretell, but that no one can know what is on the other side until one walks through the door. As I stood in the center of that circle and I looked around, I became most focused on the young children there and when I saw a child, and especially the little girls, I saw the thousands of children that are within them, the thousands of humans to come. They were all there at that moment, listening to each word and watching every movement. Not 50 or 80 humans that day at that time, but 10s of thousands or 10s of millions. The human spirit has been beaten down by the few and the greedy and the powerful who seek to use us for their own selfish gains. They take a piece of our spirit by removing our connection to Mother Earth, by making us want more "stuff," making us want to be like them. They reach into our chest and rip out our spirit and do with it what they want and we allow them to. We allow them to out of fear, out of a forgetting of the traditional ways, out of a forgetting of our connection to our Mother the Earth. The worst part is that by allowing them to do this to us, we are allowing them to do this to the children also (and to all the generations that live within them right now). It is as though we are building a cage around ourselves with imaginary bars that we create ourselves. We build a cage around the children as well. The spirits want to be freed from that cage. The Creator wants us to be freed from that cage as was Promised long ago. Just walk through that door and the cage disappears. We do not have to allow them to confine our spirits any longer. The day is here. The door is open.

After I finished speaking, I was emotionally drained, but more alive than I have ever felt before. Many Elders spoke after me, including Francisco, and including Mary, one of the respected woman Elders. After the speaking was done, it was decided that all the Elders would sign and all lined up to sign on behalf of the Nation, to give birth to The One Nation, to light the torch. Then the most amazing thing happened. All the younger Algonquin lined up because they wanted to sign to, as individual humans, as Algonquin, as the first citizens of The One Nation, as examples to their children who looked on. Then others signed, Native and Non-Native, humans freeing their spirits and breaking their cages. Chuckie ran out of pages for signing.

Monday morning was another spiritual and emotional closing ceremony, actually and symbolically preparing a bundle representing Mother Earth and planting her anew in the soft dirt under the fir boughs not far from the Sacred Fire, which will now remain lit forever. What happens from here? The Creator knows. We cannot. I am guessing that we now must act as emissaries, as ambassadors for The One Nation, spreading the message to all Nations and people who will listen, to open the door for them, to pass the torch to them. Given my experience with this initial signing, I certainly want to be at each signing to witness once again the Creator at work and at play.

Peace and Love,

Tony P. (Onenkiwahi!)

Here is a past(March 30, 2008) & the initial Press release that I did a radio show with Tony about, a couple of times now- I will work to get those past programs into at least a podcast, that my podcast guru friend Michael Kickingbear Johnson helped me launch while we were in Atlanta- I will send PR about my podcast at a later date.

This is from: Anthony J. Pasquariello, Esq. 8-8:15 PM
Rockaway, New Jersey

Anthony J. Pasquariello, Esq. lives in New Jersey, raising 2 teenagers on his own, with instructions from his Elders to band with the Algonquin Nation and assist as best he can. He is a traditional Mohawk, with roots in Kahnawake (5 mis. SW of Montreal), where his Longhouse is and where his mother was born. He is a lawyer in the United States and somehow finds himself enmeshed in the birthing of the Nation foretold by our ancestors across Turtle Island (the World).

Peace. Onenkiwahi!

" I am of the Mohawk Nation, 1 of the 6 Nations of the Iroquois (Haudenausaunee) Confederacy in the Northeastern American Continent. I set forth below the Declaration we are soon to sign (about 50 Nations here are signing it so far - and growing)...."

DECLARATION OF SOVEREIGNTY OF THE CONFEDERATED NATIONS OF THE
INDIGENOUS PEOPLES OF THE AMERICAS AND DEMAND FOR IMMEDIATE
RECOGNITION OF NATION-STATE STATUS

AND NOW, THE Indigenous Peoples desiring to re-assert their Creator- given rights to live, prosper and care for their ancestral lands, said rights arising from time immemorial; the Indigenous Peoples desiring to re-assert such Creator-given rights through their ancestral Nations; IT APPEARING that such Creator-given rights were never surrendered and could never be surrendered, voluntarily or otherwise; IT FURTHER APPEARING that such Creator-given Sovereignty may co-exist with the sovereignty asserted by other non-indigenous Nations, such mutual sovereignty able to exist in the same space and at the same time;

THEREFORE, The Indigenous Peoples hereby demand immediate recognition of such Creator-given Sovereignty and collectively and unanimously agree to take all steps deemed by all to be necessary and appropriate to obtain such recognition from all affected non-indigenous Nations, including the United States of America, Canada, Mexico, and any other Nation whose sovereignty currently infringes upon the Sovereignty of the Confederated Nations of the Indigenous Peoples of the Americas, said
Sovereignty, Rights, Demand and Steps arising under the following PRINCIPLES, hereby deemed to be immutable as having derived directly from the Creator:

FIRST, each and every Indigenous Person of the Confederated Nations of the Indigenous Peoples of the Americas, regardless of which Indigenous Nation that Indigenous Person was born into, is born endowed with Sovereign status because such Sovereignty is Creator-given and may not be modified, amended, taken away or destroyed by any human or any institution created by any human or any combination of humans, whether by force or by Treaty;

SECOND, each and every Indigenous Person of the Indigenous Peoples of the Americas, by and through their respective Nations, neither ceded, nor was ever able to cede, as set forth FIRST above, their Creator-given Sovereignty, either through Treaty or any other such document or device, whether Ordered by any Court of any Nation or otherwise;

THIRD, the Indigenous Peoples of the Americas, by and through their respective Nations, are entitled to all accoutrements of Sovereignty, including the right to be recognized as nation-states by all other nation-states, whether existing or to be created, the right to enact laws for the benefit of their Peoples and to regulate commerce, from the determination of who shall constitute the Peoples, maintaining the status of the Peoples, from birth to passing, to the right to impose taxes, if any; that is, the
Confederated Nations of the Indigenous Peoples of the Americas shall have all the rights and accoutrements of any internationally recognized nation-state under international law; and

FOURTH, each and every Indigenous Person of the Confederated Nations of the Indigenous Peoples of the Americas is an individually Sovereign Human Being, having arisen from and being part of Mother Earth, born with inherent Sovereignty that may co-exist in the same space and at the same time with the sovereignty of other nation-states whose sovereignty currently infringes upon the Sovereignty of the Indigenous Peoples of the Americas, such that each and every Indigenous Person has the
inherent right to reside, be gainfully employed, travel, hunt, gather, or engage in any other activity enjoyed by Human Beings as such, anywhere in the Americas, without any interference or impediments from the infringing nation-states.

PRESS RELEASE

November 3, 2007:

Dozens of Indigenous Sovereign Nations throughout Canada and the United States have agreed to move forward with a Declaration of Sovereignty, by which these Indigenous Sovereign Nations will band together to re-assert their inherent sovereignty, inviting all Indigenous Sovereign Nations from all around the world to join. This newly con-federated Nation is appropriately named "The Turtle Island Confederacy." Those who know will understand that "Turtle Island" is another traditional name for "the World." This is truly a universal Declaration. The Hereditary Chiefs of these Indigenous Sovereign Nations will gather at a signing ceremony
to take place at a location and on a date soon to be decided by the Elders involved, at which time The Turtle Island Confederacy will be born.

Again, those who know will understand that the traditional governing systems and the traditional cultures of these Indigenous Sovereign Nations were and continue to be decimated by laws enacted by their "host" countries, including Canada and the United States, which laws, among other things, impose false (proxy)(foreign) governments on our people. This true Declaration of true Sovereignty has the blessing of the Creator and International Law.

The creation of The Turtle Island Confederacy will immediately free the Indigenous Sovereign Nations to re-assert their sovereignty, an inherent sovereignty that was never surrendered and never could have been surrendered. It has taken the Indigenous Sovereign Nations over 200 years to regroup and arrive at this crucial point in history to re-commence performing their sacred duties to care for Mother Earth and, hence, all people. It is no accident and no coincidence that the Creator has chosen this time to arrange the rebirth of this ancient Nation. The air, the water, the land and all living things are in danger now as never before. The Turtle Island Confederacy is born from all things positive, not from anger for past oppression and atrocities undeniably committed. These things are forgiven. When the colonizers arrived, we welcomed them and cared for them when they
could not care for themselves.

They were like children sitting at our feet in need of sustenance, which we gladly provided. The children grew up steadily over the course of several hundred years, only to rebel against their caregivers, reacting with greed and forgetfulness of all we did for them and all we tried to teach them. For this they are also forgiven. The time has come, however, when these now young adults must realize and admit the innocent error of their youthful and frivolous ways and turn once again to the wisdom and care of those who raised them. Unwittingly, they developed along the way the technological and linguistic means for all Indigenous Sovereign Nations to now join together with one good mind and one pure heart for the good of all humans.

In conclusion, The Turtle Island Confederacy extends an open invitation to all Indigenous Sovereign Nations to join us on this historic and epic peaceful path into the future and also to convey this all-important message to all colonizing states: "The Turtle Island Confederacy extends, once again, its open hand in friendship and in good faith as our gesture of our desire to continue to coexist for the benefit and respect of all people and our one true Mother, "Turtle Island."

All: She:kon: It was a very moving and historic conference call today. Chief Kapialano and Red Jacket were not there, but Darlene Kelly, Red Jacket's wife, was there on their behalf (with her sister as well). Jake Wawatie was there also. Darlene will talk to Kapialano and Red Jacket and get back to us. At an appropriate point along the way, the Creator was asked to express the direction to be taken at this time. Whether we wait for July at the Longest Walk or whether we sign on April 20 and move forward. The Creator spoke very loudly and very clearly that we must sign as many of us as possible on April 20 with or without funding. Jake spoke to this and spoke of climbing a mountain on April 20 if necessary by himself to sign in a private ceremony to light the torch for all Nations to see and follow. Doug Mabbett had spoken of passing a torch (figuratively) among the Nations in Australia and New Zealand and passing it around the world from indigenous Nation to indigenous Nation. The Algonquin will sign it on the mountain top alone if necessary to be the first to light the torch for everyone. It was clear at that point that all Nations would stand shoulder to shoulder with the Algonquins to light the torch with them, that we could not let them do this alone. The Creator truly spoke to us. It was an amazing thing. i wish each of you had been there and would not be surprised if your hair stood up at that moment. So, we must now make preparations for a signing on the East Coast on April 20 with the Algonquin, Mi'kmaq, Tobique, and others (please do not take insult if i left out your name). We will have to wait to see whether the Squamish and others will folllow this lead (i am confident that they will after Darlene speaks on the Creator's behalf) and sign either here with us or on the West Coast at the same time (or some other location that may be agreed). We must continue to seek all-important funding and will meet the Longest Walkers in PA in the beginning of July and perhaps sign with the Dalai Lama and others at that time. We will be ambassadors for the Creator and the Prophesies, keepers of the torch until it has been passed to everyone on this Mother our Earth. Truly amazing times. Let's get ready. Also, each day from now on, all of us will say prayers at 6:00 p.m. EST for the success of this movement toward sovereignty for everyone. It was agreed that this will provide the energy and power for the tasks yet to occur. Call me if you have any questions. Nothing can stop this now. Peace. Onenkiwahi! Tony P.

FIRST ANNUAL WEST COAST AMERICAN INDIAN MUSIC AWARDS

For Decades Unheard And Suppressed By The Multi-billion Dollar Mainstream Entertainment Industry, West Coast Contemporary Native American Artists Now Get Ready For An Event All Their Own – And Invite The World To Participate.

For many contemporary Native American Artists, it is a mystery who or how one gets a Nammy, the Native American version of the Grammy's. Many Native American artists, especially on the West Coast, feel left out of an industry that profits off of our cultures and even more so, the stereotypes of our cultures. Some artists being told, they are "just not Indian enough" are frustrated with the continued oppression of their art, work, and very being and there is a growing trend of people taking matters into their own hands. From artists who record in their house and beat the streets with cd's in their trunks to artists who are international cyber-celebs with sites like myspace and youtube.

Native American-owned local record label, Upriza Records based out of Puyallup Wa., is hosting the First Annual West Coast American Indian Music Awards at Chief Leschi Auditorium in Puyallup, WA on May 3rd. The Expected attendance is 2,500 to 4,000 people. CEO/Producer, Jeremy Miller is the brain behind this event and, while their have been some neigh Sayers and mysterious phone calls and emails, submissions for awards continue to come in along with feedback about excitement for such an event.

Bringing together the Pacific Islanders and the Coastal peoples of the West Coast in a open form of music will rekindle the spirit of the ring of fire " the Pacific Rim ".
The event will be emceed by Actor Robert Guthrie a seasoned actor who has stared in major films such as Expiration date the movie filmed in Seattle Wa. and boasts a mega lineup of about 30 performers coming from over 10 different states and brings a variety of genres including traditional drum groups, hiphop, blues, jazz, dance theater, spoken word, classical, punk and new styles. There will also be a free dinner " traditional salmon bake " and a few other "special treats" for those that attend.

If you'd like more information about this topic, or to schedule an interview with a representative of Upriza Records, please contact Jeremy Miller at 253-208-8201 or e-mail nativewarparty@netscape.net .

Here is the latest from BlueJay about this issue-

Thanks everyone, for your prayers and support,
Bluejay

My second call in guest is Brenda Golden a Native American woman from Oklahoma...she is letting us know about S.P.I.R.I.T.

(Society to Preserve the Indigenous Rights and Indigenous Traditions)
and actions & steps they are taking to re-educate societies about her tribe and others all across the United States....

Brenda Golden was born in Clinton, Oklahoma but was raised on her family's original allotment outside of Clearview, Oklahoma. They still own their original 160 acres, although it is so fractionated she says, that they probably (maybe) own a 1/2 a foot of land now.

She is of the Raccoon Clan of Alabama Quassarte stompground and Creek Chapel Methodist Church. Her mother is full blood Mvskoke but did not teach her the language, but she has learned the customs and traditions very well. She attended Sequoyah High School, an all Indian boarding school that was run by the BIA back then, now it's operated by the Cherokee Nation. She has a bachelor's degree in Marketing from the University of Oklahoma and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Oklahoma. S.P.I.R.I.T. was organized after we held an alternative event to counter the Oklahoma Centennial Celebrations in November 2007.

About
S.P.I.R.I.T.
(Society to Preserve the Indigenous Rights and Indigenous Traditions)

We the Members of S.P.I.R.I.T support native issues, families, personal education for ourselves and our youth, and basic human rights to exist as free people.

SPIRIT is a group of individuals dedicated to getting the true history of American Indians told. We organized for the purpose of making a difference in the state of Oklahoma. Brought together initially during the November 16th Survival Walk and Remembrance Day, SPIRIT is moving forward with addressing issues affecting all Indigenous Peoples of the Americas.

Our members span across many different states and continents, with all committed to making a positive change for Oklahoma Indians in our lifetime. We are ordinary individuals in a variety of occupations, diverse backgrounds, different levels of education, and all ages, all with the goal of righting centuries of wrongs.

SPIRIT is a strong upcoming voice for American Indians through providing leadership, support systems, and promoting inspiration to our native brothers and sisters in our struggle. We want to educate ourselves, our youth and others about the true history of Indigenous peoples. We seek to address gross misrepresentations and misconceptions of natives that are reinforced by public education, the mass media, in history books and in communities.

We want the history books to reflect a true and accurate portrayal of the indigenous people in the world and especially of Oklahoma Indians. We want Oklahoma public schools and communities to stop the annual re-enactments of the 1889 Land Run because it is humiliating and demeaning to Indians. Further, the perspective of the Oklahoma Indians is completely swept aside and ignored in all these celebrations; the true history needs to be told and revisions made in public policies.

SPIRIT calls for the abolishment of mascots that stereotype American Indians, continually reduce us to cartoon characters, dehumanize us, and make us nothing more than figureheads.

We want more funding for American Indian language immersion programs for K-12 and higher education. The colonizers took away our native languages now they owe us a responsibility for helping us get them back. We want sacred lands and lands claimed by American Indians to be returned to the rightful owners. SPIRIT calls for the protection of Mother Earth and the rights of American Indians to exercise their religious freedom without any persecution or interference.

SPIRIT held a parade in downtown Oklahoma City on April 12, 2008 for the purpose of enhancing Native Pride. There were over 250 participants that ended at the Land Run Memorial.

On April 19th, SPIRIT had a presence at the Norman, OK, 89er Day Parade that had the theme, "Another Hundred Years" for the purpose of educating the public and increase the sensitivity of participants to Oklahoma Indian's response.

The members of SPIRIT have been collecting signatures on a Resolution that asks for the State to ban land run re-enactments in public schools and teach the truth about Oklahoma history that incorporates American Indians' side of the story. A delegation of SPIRIT will deliver these signed Resolutions to the Governor, members of the State Legislator and the State Superintendent on April 22, the actual anniversary date of the first Land Run in Indian Territory.

Founding members include: Brenda Golden – Muscogee (Creek), Glenda Deer – Kickapoo/Shawnee, Rodney Factor – Seminole, David Hill – Choctaw, Kathryn Hatcher – Chickasaw, Gary Colbert - Chickasaw, Mark Francis – Muscogee (Creek), Sandy Williams – Seminole, Soulowla Williams – United Keetowah Band, Terrell Tanequodle – Kiowa/Muscogee (Creek), Beverly Isaac – Comanche (Numunuh)

SPIRIT is open to anyone that is serious about taking a stand for Indigenous Rights and Traditions. SPIRIT is the hope for indigenous people in Oklahoma and we have found a lot of support from Natives since November 2007. We are on the web at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/okspirit and http://www.myspace.com/oklaspirit.

TIME LINE:

November 16, 2007 - Remembrance Walk and Ceremony at the State Capitol, Oklahoma City OK

January 26, 2008 - SPIRIT met for the first time in Shawnee, OK

February to April 2008 - SPIRIT held meetings at different locations each weekend in OK, including Tulsa, Seminole, Sasakwa, Norman, Anadarko, Shawnee and Oklahoma City so that as many Indians as possible could be heard.

April 12, 2008 - SPIRIT hosted the "Honoring our Past ~ Capturing our Future" parade in Bricktown, Downtown Oklahoma City

April 19, 2008 - SPIRIT protested the 89er Day Parade in Norman Oklahoma that had the theme, "The Next Hundred Years"

April 22, 2008 - SPIRIT will present the State of Oklahoma with a Resolution (attached) calling for the end of land run re-enactments in public schools and to teach the true history in schools.

We plan to nominate a Native American to the Oklahoma State Textbook Committee and continue working against American Indian mascots at public schools.

Tatanka Oyate Project and Buffalo Field Campaign are honored to share
this announcement of a Releasing of the Buffalo Spirits Ceremony to be
held in Yellowstone National Park on Tuesday, April 15, beginning at
12:00 noon (MST). The ceremony is open to all, and all are welcome.
Following the ceremony, a community meal will be served at the Gardiner
Community Center on 206 Main Street. A flyer for distribution and
posting is available at
http://www.buffalofieldcampaign.org/buffalospiritceremony.html.
The ceremony will be led by Chief Arvol Looking Horse, 19th Generation
Keeper of the White Buffalo Calf Pipe, who last performed the Spirit
Releasing ceremony in 1997 when 1,084 wild buffalo were slaughtered that
winter.
According to the U.S. National Park Service, so far this winter
Yellowstone National Park and the Montana Department of Livestock have
trapped and slaughtered 1,187 wild buffalo migrating from the
Yellowstone plateau to winter range in the Gardiner Basin and upper
Madison Valley. Hundreds more buffalo remain in a trap operated by
Yellowstone National Park inside the Park at Stephens Creek. 80 bison
calves have been separated from their family groups and placed in a
quarantine research project at Corwin Springs, Montana.
An excerpt from Arvol Looking Horse's full press statement attached in
PDF follows:
"Let it be known that Yellowstone territory; the habitat of the last
wild Buffalo Nation - is sacred ground, it has been a SACRED SITE for
the First Nation's people, and for all humanity who hold deep respect
for all Creation. The Buffalo Nation has confirmed this fact; by where
they have ended up, continuing to survive in their natural migration,
struggling to live in a peaceful manner. Our ancestors also gave us this
message by fasting in this area long ago, as they recognized this place
of sacredness. This understanding is how we maintain the balance upon
Un-ci Ma-ka (Grandmother Earth), to protect these places, especially for
the survival of our future generations to come.
"These Buffalo that lost their lives in Yellowstone did not die by
Natural Law, nor were their spirits honored with ceremony. This is why
we must go there to perform a ceremony of honor for those that lost
their lives by the misunderstanding of human-kind and pray to Wakan
Tankan (Great Spirit) for pity of how gifts were unappreciated. We
must pray with all those who grieve and be grateful for them.
"I humbly ask for all People to make prayers on April 15th, at high
noon; for a healing of humanity - for the decisions that are being made
with no regard for the sacredness of life, for the massacred Buffalo's
spiritual journey and to protect what is left - in understanding of what
our journey in this life represents in being responsible! We must pray
for the healing of the human Spirit, to understand the connection to all
living beings on Un-ci Ma-ka."
