Mica Valdez is a two spirit and native, mixed blood (Mexica/Swedish/Irish/Spanish) multidisciplinary artist, also known as mexica queen. She recently received a MFA in Creative Writing with an emphasis in Poetry from Mills College in Oakland, California. This is her first time editing an anthology.

                                           

SistaHailstorm hails from the city of Lost Angels, Southern Cali and is Yuma, Pascua Yaqui, and Mexica.  Originally a graffiti artist, freestyle emcee, and martial artist, she learns about balancing the creation of life through underground hip-hop and traditional ways.  Hailstorm uses knowledge gained to strengthen unification between all Indigenous nations.

                        


LeAndra Bitsie was raised in both the rural areas of the Navajo reservation and the inner cities of Washington, D.C. She is the founder of Inspire.Motivate.Lead. Inc. and teaches leadership empowerment, creativity, and inspiration. Her dedication for positive progression can be found at www.leandrabitsie.com.

 

Jaynie Lara (Weye Hlapsi) is a Two Spirit woman of the Yaqui nation who has written poetry since the age of twelve and has performed throughout the San Francisco/Bay Area. She is a a member of Bay Area American Indian Two Spirits, Hummingbird Lodge and is a board member for Intertribal Friendship House and Native American Aids Project. Jaynie also drums and sings with Sweet Medicine Singers, an all Native American drum circle.

Paddle to Swinomish 2011
Loving Sharing & Caring Together
July 25th-31st 2011

Over 130 family canoes will land on the shores of the Swinomish Reservation, across from the town of La Conner, WA. This will be a once in a lifetime opportunity to see & experience the canoe culture of our Salish tribes and other visiting inter-tribal canoe families paddling to Skagit County. This paddle is a resurgence of the traditional ways of the canoe culture re-instilled as a way to bring back the language; the songs; healing; and reunions between families and friends as the canoes travel the Salish Sea, stopping along the way at various tribal locations & other designated stops. This is a FREE event. Volunteers are needed; vendor opportunities on site are first come, first served! Media coverage is welcome with prior approval.
